Feeder School-Townsend/Maxton 5th & 6th Grade Wins Cotton Bowl 20-8!

It was a warm day at South Robeson's Field in Rowland and the Maxton 5th & 6th Grade Eagles were hot with their run game. The Eagles ran all over the St.Pauls Bulldogs as they won the Cotton Bowl 20-8 and finish their season at (7-1). St.Pauls would score first when they marched the ball down the field and on a 5yd run they would take the lead 8-0 after the 2pt. conv. Not to be outdone the Eagles were ready to soar when on the kickoff J.Hill ran 50yds to paydirt and would tie the score at 8-8 after J.Mitchell's 2pt. conv. and close out the 1st quarter scoring. In the 2nd quarter the Eagles would try and throw the ball but it wasn't working out. So, back to the ground they went, and begin moving the ball on the ground. The Eagles on 4th down would give the ball to their speedy back J.Hill and he would dance his way to the endzone and the Eagles would take a 14-8 lead into the half. In the 3rd quarter, with the ball the Eagles' J.Hill would get a nice 25yd kickoff return again but the drive would later stall. Both teams would go 4-and-out on a couple drives and end the third quarter. Going into the 4th quarter the Eagles were looking to protect their lead and hold on for the win. St.Pauls would get a couple of good drives but could not score. On one drive the Bulldogs did score but it would be called back do to 12 players on the field. On another drive by the Bulldogs, they would have a 1st-and-Goal but the Eagles defense would clamp down and stop them for loses on all four downs Late in the fourth, the Eagles' J.Williams would run a QB keep and go down the right sideline to the endzone to put the Eagles up 20-8. The Eagles kept us entertain this season and we are very proud of them. And for all of those players who will be playing for Townsend next season Good Luck and for those returning to the 5th & 6th Grade, work hard during the offseason.

It was another day on the gridiron with good weather and great plays. The excitement from the kids could be felt in the BIG MO stands at Purnell Swett high School. Today we had Fairmont and Rowland then Pembroke and Prospect. With all the energy the kids had on the field, I'm sure the Moms won't have a problem getting this kids in bed tonight.

I'd just like to say thanks to the coaches for the all the hard work and time you have taken out for these young football players. Also thanks to the parents and grands for keeping your kids involved and supporting them at a young age. Enjoy the Pictures!
